Thomas Barrett

It is Tom’s delight to bring over 25 years of experience in banking, investments and insurance to the Axis
team. Located in West Chester, PA he brings his unique business experience to our clients.
He is responsible to expand sales nationally, build awareness of the firm in the marketplace and deal one on
one with both prospects and clients. His addition to the team in May 2006 was a result of his long term relationship
with Mike W. Smith who was seeking to not just add knowledgeable insurance professionals but
seasoned business people. In the world of professional liability it is critical to understand a firm’s business,
the professional services they provide, the risks they currently face and anticipate risks which may occur.
His ability to understand complex business arrangements and business risk are the result of a lifetime of
training and experience. From a bank’s management training program for finance major graduates in Florida,
he left to become an international analyst on Wall Street at 25. He spent 8 years there with Barclays, Royal
Bank of Canada, and National Australia Bank. After running an international credit department, he acted as
Vice President Marketing the last 3 years excelling in business development in the Fortune 1000 market. Tom
handled a large number of clients, many billions of dollars, and even acted as Agent Bank in syndications he
created. He built a solid relationship with Paine Webber, became their banker and created a pipeline of new
business. This helped him to become the largest producer of income at the Manhattan US headquarters.
Tom then transitioned to Smith Barney for 7 years as a Financial Advisor, trained in New York and worked in PA.
Over the next 6 years he was a VP with Morgan Stanley and Prudential/Wachovia building an investment
advisory business which included individuals, businesses, and notable corporate not for profits. He lastly
formed a partnership at H&R Block with a practice based upon tax driven wealth management and insurance
planning strategies. He holds a variety of licenses from both investment and insurance fields.
In the last year he has focused on the commercial real estate niche for which the firm is best known.
He is expanding the firm’s market share into the consulting, third party administrative, public company, and
investment centered real estate areas.
Tom is married, has a 10 year old at home and 3 grown children. He enjoys church ministry, teaching, travel,
reading, tennis, skiing, motorcycles and even public speaking.
